It’s a big myth that T20 cricket is all about batsmen! We all have witnessed a dozen times that what spinners can do when it comes to the shorter formats of the game. Similarly, IPL is the platform where spinners play a crucial part in making their team victorious. Today, Cricwizz plans to showcase you the best performances by spinners in the history of IPL. Let’s take a glance:
Amit Mishra is one of the most successful spinners in the history of IPL. He is the second highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL till date with 134 wickets. However, his best performance came in the first edition of the IPL itself when his bowling outclassed Deccan Chargers.
Mishra took 5 wickets for just 17 runs and provided a glorious victory his Daredevils side over the star-studded Deccan Chargers.
The turbanator is the 3rd highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL. He started his career with Mumbai Indians and stayed till 2017 before Chennai Super Kings picked him at his base price of Rs 2 Cr for 2018 IPL.
Bhajji’s best performance came against Chennai Super Kings only when he took 5 wickets for just 18 runs in the 2011 IPL edition. He sent back Raina, Anirudh. Albie Morkel, Ashwin and Joginder Sharma. However, this time he would be looking to repeat his feat; this time by bowling for CSK.
How can Ravindra Jadeja be left behind when it comes to best spinners’ spells? Our own Jaddu had a terrific bowling performance against Deccan Chargers in 2012 IPL edition when he took 5 wickets for 16 runs.
His ferocious spell gave CSK a 74-run victory over Chargers. This is his best-ever IPL performance till date. He has been retained by the franchise for this season as well and would be looking to contribute the same way.
Legends are always legends in whatever format they play! The best example is the Anil Kumble’s magnificent performance against Rajasthan Royals in 2009 IPL. The spinning giant picked up 5 wickets for just 5 runs against a quality batting line-up that won the previous edition of the IPL.
RCB, after scoring just 133 runs in 20 overs, must be expecting a loss that day but Jumbo’s jumbo performance did it for RCB and they beat RR by 75 runs. RCB also reached the final of this year’s IPL where they lost to Deccan Chargers.
Sunil Narine would always be on the list when it comes to spinners in the history of IPL. His magic with the ball is still not clear with the batsmen. Narine’s best-ever IPL performance came against Kings XI Punjab in 2012 when he took 5 wickets for just 19 runs. Can you imagine KKR lost that game by 2 runs?
This is the beauty of IPL! Narine’s best performance came in a losing cause but the best part for KKR was that they won that edition of the IPL that happened to be their first-ever IPL victory.
