Bangladesh would eye revenge when they take on Sri Lanka in the second T20I at Sylhet on Sunday. Bangladesh need to win the second T20I to level the series after Sri Lanka won the first T20I by six wickets. Cricwizz takes a look at the strengths and weaknesses of the two teams ahead of the second T20I between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
All-round unit: Bangladesh have few attacking T20 batsmen in Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah who all scored runs in the big total of 193/5 in the first T20I. They also have few quality T20 bowlers in Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman who can turn the match on its head with their line and length bowling.
Bowling can crumble under pressure: In the first T20I loss against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh bowlers were taken to cleaners as Sri Lanka batsmen made merry. Except Nazmul Islam who conceded 25 in 4 overs for two wickets, all Bangladesh bowlers conceded 10 runs per over. Hence, Bangladesh bowlers need to raise their performance if the team wish to level the series.
Bangladesh squad: Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Abu Hider Rony, Abu Jayed, Ariful Haque, Mehdi Hasan, Zakir Hasan, Afif Hossain.
Sri Lanka strengths:
In-form team: Sri Lanka are the in-form team at the moment, winning the tri-series final, the Test series and the first T20I against Bangladesh. After the losing the tri-series league clash against Bangladesh by 163 runs, Sri Lanka have bounced back admirably to put up some brilliant display with bat and ball to win everything on their path. They will look to seal a T20I series win against Bangladesh to cap a rare and successful series away from home. Sri Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal has led his boys well.
Sri Lanka weaknesses:
Complacency: Sri Lanka have posted great recovery after the embarrassing loss against Bangladesh in the tri-series league clash. They have done extremely well so far. With a final match to go, they can fall prey to law of averages and become complacent or lose focus. Hence, there is every chance that Sri Lanka can lose the last T20I as Bangladesh would come hard at them to salvage some pride in front of home fans.
Sri Lanka squad: Dinesh Chandimal (Captain), Upul Tharanga, Danushka Gunathilaka, Kusal Perera, Thisara Perera, Asela Gunaratne, Niroshan Dickwella, Dasun Shanaka, Isuru Udana, Shehan Madushanaka, Jeffrey Vandersay, Akila Dananjaya, Amila Aponso, Jeevan Mendis, Asitha Fernanado.
Prediction: Sri Lanka have been the in-form team in this tour, while Bangladesh failed to make the best use of their chances. Sri Lanka would look to wrap up the tour with a series win, while Bangladesh would look to salvage some pride by winning the final T20I. But Sri Lanka would start favourite in this match. Our vote goes to Sri Lanka.
Possible winner: Sri Lanka
