Mumbai Indians are one of the strongest sides of the IPL from the inaugural edition. They won their first title in 2013 and then didn’t stop from becoming hot favourites of many. They were victorious in 2015 and 2017 as well. In the recently concluded IPL Auctions, MI Paltan took some bold decisions by not favouring Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh. The fans were disappointed by their move but due to limited options, they had to make some tough decisions. Today, Cricwizz has the list of past Mumbai Indians players, who will be missed by the team. Check it out:
Lendl Simmons has been a valuable part of the Mumbai Indians squad from the last 4 years. He played some superb knocks up the order that helped Mumbai win games single-handedly. It was expected that Simmons would get a call from some team but that didn’s happen. The West Indian remained unsold and might not feature in the IPL this time. Mumbai Indians are definitely going to miss his services in this upcoming season.
The New Zealand speedstar shared some great memories in the Mumbai Indians camp. This time he was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Auctions. His outswingers are capable of sending any good batsmen back to the pavilion. He is also one of the players who will be missed by the Paltan.
MI fans can’t imagine a team without Malinga! He was the backbone of the pace-attack for several years and this time he was axed from the squad due to his inconsistent performance. He remained unsold in the auctions which was a clear indication that franchises were looking for some new talent. He, however, has joined the MI camp as a bowling mentor alongside Shane Bond. Though he will be there in the camp as a mentor, Mumbai Indians will miss his services on the ground for sure.
If Malinga was the backbone of the pace-attack, Harbhajan was the backbone of the whole Mumbai Indians team. This would be the first time that Bhajji will play for some other side apart from MI. It was expected that MI will retain Bhajji but things didn’t go his way and he was picked by MSD’s Chennai Super Kings. Though seeing Bhajji-Dhoni combo would be amazing, Mumbai Indians are definitely going to miss their prime bowler.
