Sunrisers Hyderabad had a good auction, focussing more on Indian talent than overseas cricketers. They would look to repeat the 2016 IPL heroics when they defeated RCB in the final to win the title. Cricwizz analyses their 2018 IPL squad to determine how they have fared in the auction and chances of winning the title again in the 2018 edition.
Right use of RTM card: SRH had retained their top two stars – David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar – before the IPL auction. And then they used the Right to Match card to retain Shikhar Dhawan for Rs 5.2 crore to get their attacking opening combination back. Dhawan and Warner had been match-winners for their team. And it was a great move for SRH to get Dhawan back. They also used the RTM card to retain Rashid Khan for Rs 9 crore. Rashid Khan can be the match-winner that SRH needs to win the title.
Manish Pandey for Rs 11 crore: Sunrisers paid a big price to get Manish Pandey for Rs 11 crore. Manish is the first Indian player to score a ton in IPL. He had a decent season with KKR last time. It’s more of a calculated risk for SRH to buy Manish at such a big price. Manish has the potential to be the finisher for SRH in IPL 2018 after the team lost Yuvraj Singh and Moises Henriques.
Plenty of all-rounders: SRH has invested in all-rounders in Yusuf Pathan, Carlos Brathwaite, Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Nabi and Deepak Hooda. But only or two will get regular chance in the playing XI. Hence, SRH have the problem of plenty. They have a good selection headache regarding which all-rounder to choose and whom to drop.
Good pace unit: The pace department is led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar with good back-up in Chris Jordan, Sandeep Sharma, Siddarth Kaul, T Natarajan, Basil Thampi. Bhuvi will have to lead from the front as a lot of expectations will be riding on his shoulders.
A lot rests on youngsters: SRH have banked on youth to deliver for the team. They have youngsters such as Sachin Baby, Ricky Bhui, Deepak Hooda, Tanmay Agarwal, Shreevats Goswami who will be hungry for success. They will look to do well and pay back the faith the team has put on them.

What are their chances of winning title with the current squad?
Sunrisers Hyderabad once again depends on the inspiring leadership of David Warner to bring the best out of experienced and younger stars to give a tough challenge for the title. He has a good mix of experience and youth, but the problem for him is getting a team effort out of his squad to make a bid for the title. SRH have a strong chance for the title if they work within their limits with team efforts helping them all the way.
