IPL Auctions are just around the corner! The beauty of this event is that once again many T20 specialists would be under the hammer and would be hoping to get big bucks from the franchises. On one end where we have giants like Chris Gayle, Carlos Brathwaite, Aaron Finch and David Miller in the list of auctions; Indians on the other hand too would be excited for their stars to get picked including the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shikhar Dhawan.
Few days ago players set their base prices and now franchises would be working on their choice of players they need. However, some players have set a higher base price for themselves which could prove to be a bit disappointing for them. Cricwizz has come up with a list of some players who might not get picked due to their higher base price. Have a look:
Karn Sharma has played for 3 IPL teams so far including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mumbai Indians. He was a part of the winning team of IPL 2017. Now, as Mumbai Indians have opted for Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma in the IPL retentions, chances are negligible that they would use the RTM for Karn Sharma. In fact, he has set his base price of Rs 2 crore which is a higher amount. One would not be surprised if he remains unsold in the auctions.
Just like Karn Sharma, Vinay Kumar too has played for multiple franchises including RCB, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and Mumbai Indians. His performance in the history of the tournament is decent but due to the emergence of more speed stars in the country, he might remain under the shadows once again. Rs 1 crore is the base price of Vinay Kumar, for which franchises could not entertain him.
Now, this might be a surprising name in this list and can hurt some Jadhav fans. But the truth is he can remain unsold not because of the performance he showed in the recent past but because of his base price. The right-hander has set s base price of Rs 2 cr for himself which franchises can find a bit higher. Also, most of the teams have hitters and all-rounders in their squad so not picking Jadhav in the squad can be possible.
The veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has given India many delightful moments in his career including 2000-01 Hat-trick, 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, back to back centuries in Test cricket etc. The offie has set his base price as Rs 2 crore which franchises could find it huge because of his performance and fitness. The bitter truth is that he is not the same Bhajji we all know but age is what you can’t control. So, this could be the end of this champions bowler if not picked by the franchises.
This is perhaps the most surprising pick on this list! Yuvraj Singh is a T20 specialist and has made India victorious on numerous occasions. Who can forget his power-packed batting in World T20 2007? Everyone is aware of his current fitness which could cost him his position in this year’s IPL. Many would disagree on this as some will say that he is still capable of hitting those biggies… But, this would not come as a very big surprise if the Punjabi remains unsold in the auctions.
There was a time when this player was on a roll with his swinging deliveries. But after few years who would have thought that he will not find a place in his state squad. Yes, Pathan has been out of the Baroda squad now and is struggling to get a place anywhere. His base price might not be higher (50 lakhs) but still, his dipped performance and fitness can end his IPL career in the auctions itself.
