This is a match between the fifth-place holder-Sydney Thunder-and bottom place holder-Hobart Hurricanes. While the hosts Hurricanes will try to salvage their campaign in the 2017 Big Bash League (BBL) Sydney Thunder will try to sneak into the top four of the table. The crucial match will be played at the Aurora Stadium, Launceston on Saturday (30th December). This the 11th match of the franchise based tournament. Since this match will be played between two contrasting sides much is not expected as the Thunder will commence the match as the outright favourite. However, before the match, Cricwizz.com scanned through the strength and weakness of Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder.
Sydney Thunder have a strong batting line up comprised of Eion Morgan, Shane Watson, Aiden Blizzard, Jos Buttler and Arjun Nair. The Thunder has been in a terrific form. Captain Watson is leading the table with 145 runs and a two fifties. Alongside Watson Morgan and Blizzard have been doing a superb job. However, Buttler’s patchy form is still a concern for the team. Alongside this strong batting line-up, youngster Arjun Nair’s performance impressed everyone. The Indian origin boy has chipped in with his crucial performance as the middle order batsman. If Buttler and Callum Ferguson come back to their gutsy form it will add strength to the Thunder’s batting line up.
Sydney Thunder’s bowling attack is comprised of Clint McKay, Mitchell McClenaghan, Andrew Fekete and Gurinder Sandhu. Though they are not big names they made a good job for the Thunder. As Pat Cummins is busy with national duty Thunder’s bowling attack suffered badly on a couple of occasions. In-form Cummins’ return to the squad will change the face of Thunder’s bowling attack.
Thunder’s weak link is their bowling. Though McClenaghan and McKay are the impressive. Absence of Cummins is hurting Thunder’s chance to win the all three matches they played so far.
The Hobart Hurricanes’ batting line up don’t have any big name other than George Bailey and Matthew Wade. Baily’s team is comprised of unhealed players. The absence of marquee players have been hurting the campaign of Hurricanes. The absence of quality batsmen have also dented their image.
Their bowling attack is also comprised of domestic players like Ben McDermott, Jake Reed, Hamish Kingston, Simon Milenko, D’Arcy Short, Jofra Archer, Riley Meredith, Thomas Rogers, Aaron Summers. So far, Hurricanes have played one match and lost that badly. For a win, they have to wait for a miracle.
