They are both teammates when they play for Afghanistan national cricket team. But they become fierce competitors and rivals when they turn up for their respective teams in T20 leagues such as Caribbean Premier League or Shpageeza Cricket League. We are talking about Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, the two most happening T20 cricketers in the world currently. They are extremely valuable players as they are proven match-winners. In T20 cricket, their value is worth in gold. But who is a better T20 cricketer of the two?
Cricwizz analyses their performance to determine who is a better T20 cricketer of the two. (Please note the comparison has been made on their performances in T20 cricket in 2017)
Match-winner with the ball: Over the past season, Rashid Khan has shown that there is no other better match-winner with the ball than him. He has broken one record after another in T20 cricket. He bagged a hat-trick in 2017 CPL, a first in the history of this tournament. He led Band-e-Amir Dragons to title in Shpageeza Cricket League. At the moment, Rashid Khan is one of the biggest match-winners in T20 cricket.
Tops the list of wicket-takers in T20 cricket in 2017: It is the year of Rashid Khan. He is the leading wicket-taker in 2017, bagging 68 wickets at a brilliant average of 14.58 in 46 T20 matches. His strike rate in 2017 is 15.2, meaning he has taken a wicket every 15.2 delivery in T20 cricket this year. The next best is 51 wickets by Sunil Narine, but at an average of 25.25 and strike rate of 23.4.
Contribution towards team’s cause: Why Rashid Khan is so crucial to a team’s chances in T20 cricket is that whenever the young leg-spinner fires with the ball, it is more often a match-winning spell. Hence, his presence in the middle makes the opposition go weak in their knees.
Joint fifth highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket in 2017: The Afghanistan all-rounder has taken 35 wickets @ 21.80 in 34 T20 cricket. He is joint fifth highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket in 2017 along with Shadab Khan. Nabi has been quite handy with the ball although he has not been as successful as Rashid Khan this year.
Useful contributions with the bat: Although Nabi does not feature in top 10, 20 or 30 run-getters in T20 cricket in 2017, he has produced timely and useful cameos with the bat in the middle-lower order. He is also known for his big hitting where he has turned the match around with his sixes and fours. He created a world record early this year when he cracked 59 runs in the last four overs of a T20I innings. David Miller recently equalled that record during his knock of 35-ball 101* against Bangladesh.
Brilliant fielder as well: Nabi is an efficient hand in the outfield. He brings multiple skills to the table and that makes him an exciting T20 cricketer. Hence, he is loved and admired by all for his multiple skills.
Verdict: Although Nabi is a brilliant all-rounder who can turn the match around with either of his batting or bowling skill, it is Rashid Khan who wins this battle as his leg-spin bowling alone can win a match for his team. But Nabi’s cameos with bat and ball have not been match-turning ones, but they have been crucial in the context of the game. What do you think?
