Recently, Pakistan legend Inzamam-ul-Haq’s nephew Imam-ul-Haq walked into record books when she slammed a ton on debut against Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi. He became just the second Pakistan cricketer and 13th overall to score a ton in his debut ODI.
Already, there have been comparisons being made of Imam with his uncle Inzy who was one of the best batsmen and captains Pakistan produced in their history. Inzy helped Imam in the field during the latter’s young days. And now, the nephew is paying it back with a record ton on ODI debut.
Inzamam, however, had a word of caution for young Imam, who is just 21 years old. Imam has just 31-match experience in First-Class cricket and is still a novice in international cricket.
Imam is a left-hand batsman compared to Inzy’s right-hand stance. He even has that cherubic face that resembled his legendary uncle Inzy during latter’s young days in international cricket.
Although Inzy was proud of Imam’s debut ODI ton, he had a word of caution for Imam. He told Imam to be anything but an ‘aloo’ or potatoes. It may be recalled that once Inzy had hit a spectator after being called ‘aloo’ repeatedly. Thanks to Inzy’s paunch and excess weight, he was the butt of all jokes and notorious of getting run-outs and making his partner’s run-out.
Realising this, Inzy advised young Imam to concentrate on his fitness and not be another ‘aloo’.
Here’s the interesting conversation between Inzy and Imam,
