Australia finally return to international cricket after an intense dispute with their borad of payments. At the end of the ugly battle, the players emerged victorious and will embark on their first tour to Bangladesh, followed by a series in India. Australia have recalled James Faulkner and Nathan Coulter Nile for their upcoming ODI series against India. Australia are scheduled to play 5 ODI’S during the month of September and October.
David Warner, Steve Smith (captain), Aaron Finch, Glen Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Travis Head, Matthew Wade (WK),Nathan Coulter Nile, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood,Hilton Cartwright, Adam Zampa,James Faulkner and Ashton Agar.
Here’s a look at the top 3 batsmen and bowlers who could prove to trouble later this year.
David Warner is one of the most explosive batsmen in ODI cricket, and on his day he can out bat opponents from the game in a moment. He has however not played against India at home. He will use his IPL experience when he play against the hosts. Warner had a fabulous IPL season last edition even going on to win the orange cap. His exposure from the IPL also means that he will adapt to Indian conditions well.
Steve Smith who is making giant strides not only with his batting but captaincy as well, will be the batsmen to watch out for when they tour India. His average against India is higher than his overall average. He had also a good outing in the recently concluded IPL, where he was the top scorer for Rising Pune Super Giant. With his aggressive captaincy they ended the season as runners up. This IPL experience helps him to bat well in different conditions and if he gets going it is difficult for India to get him out.
Though Stonis has played only 3 matches, he has showed his potential and calmness in pressure situations. His highest score of 146 came against New Zealand in this year where he single handedly took the match close, but was unfortunately unable to take the team over the line. He has not played a match against India. He has played 12 matches in IPL and has provide some vital contributions with both bat and ball in India. Moreover India haven’t bowled to him and they don’t know his technique. Since he is a new player in the setup he can prove to be an element of surprise against India.

Nathan Coulter Nile, who has been recalled after being out of the squad due to injuries. He has been recalled in the squad based on his superb performance during IPL 2017 where he picked up 15 wickets for Kolkata Knight Riders. He brings raw pace with some variations. The Indian batsmen sometimes find it difficult to counter attack his pace. He will also be keen to make impact in this series and cement his spot in the squad for future tours.

Josh Hazelwood, is one of the best pacers in the world now. He will be leading the attack in the absence of spearhead Mitch Starc. He has a lot of responsibility on his shoulder and will need to pick upwickets in the power play to put pressure on India. His economy and average are pretty impressive in ODIs. His performances against India has been average. Bu still when we look at his overall performances, he will be a fearsome bowler for the Indians.
Glenn Maxwell has to be Australia’s trump card for their campaign. Since he is very good against Indians. His average is against India is more than his overall average. He also can ball at crucial times and break some good partnerships. His 3 fifties out of 4 against India have all come in India. He also knows the Indian conditions very well and he plays spin very well. India will be having tough job to getting him out initially, if not it will be difficult for them to get him out once he gets going. He can single handedly bat the opposition out of the game which is one of his major positives.
Michael Clarke in his recent interview has said that the series against India will be difficult as India are performing superbly at home and it is very difficult to beat India at home. Australia will be hoping to win the series with this young and energetic squad. They will be also trying to erase the memories of Champions Trophy 2017, where they were knocked out in the group stage. Let’s see whether Smith can replicate the success which he had with RPS in IPL with his captaincy against India in this series.
