After Shikhar Dhawan celebrated his ton at Pallekele Test against Sri Lanka by raising his two hands in ‘V’ or ‘Victory’ sign, Hardik Pandya followed suit after scoring a ton on the second day’s play on Sunday. Pandya cracked 108 off 96 balls to steer India to 487 in first innings.
Dhawan usually celebrates a milestone on the cricket field by flinging open his arms and twirling his moustache. But this time around, he raised both his hands and did a victory symbol. Asked about the’V’ sign, Dhawan said that the celebration was a message to his teammates who had given him a new nickname. But Dhawan, at that moment, did not reveal the nickname.
However, a post by Dhawan in his Instagram account and subsequent tweets by his teammates on the same ‘V’ sign gave away the nickname and the reasons for it.
It so turned out that a day before the third Test, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya had predicted that Dhawan will hit a ton in the match. And it turned out to be true as Dhawan cracked 119 in the first innings. And the nickname was to be ‘Daddy D’.
Here’s the Instagram post by Dhawan talking about the predicted ton by Rahul and Pandya
Pandya and Rahul then acknowledged Dhawan’s response by tweeting about it. Pandya tweeted,

Not to be left behind, Rahul too tweeted about it,

And once Pandya got to his century, he also celebrated the ton by raising both his hands in ‘V’ sign. And Dhawan acknowledged Pandya’s contribution by referring the all-rounder’s celebration as ‘Daddy D’ pose.
