The Chennai crowd is quite intelligent when it comes to Test cricket, while the Mumbai crowd is intelligent when it comes to the shortest format of the sport. They exactly know how and when to pick up the players! Crowd support was the 12th man tonight, indeed. They played a major role while MI were bowling in the powerplay. End result – MI picked up 6 wickets for 26. Perfect!
Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Daredevils by 14 runs! This is the second lowest total defended at Wankhede. Brilliant effort by the bowlers who won them the game in the powerplay itself. The DD top ordered was completely destroyed by MI in the first 6 overs of the run chase. Rabada and Morris added a fine stand but that wasn’t enough. This is Mumbai’s sixth successive win in IPL 2017. Exceptional!
Man of the match – Mitchell McClenaghan
Our batsmen did well to get to 142 after being in trouble, and then our bowlers and fielders nailed it! ?#MIvDD #CricketMeriJaan #MI pic.twitter.com/J9pSsHUGA2

Bumrah gets Rabada! Hats-off KG, that was some knock. 44 on his IPL debut along with a brilliant bowling spell. Excellent all-round show by the South African youngster. 91-run stand comes to an end with that. Daredevils now require 25 runs off the last over.
Record 7th wicket partnership for Daredevils! Rabada and Morris have brought up the 100 for DD in the 17th over of the match. The pair has added 75+ for the 7th wicket but the required run rate is an astonishing 14 an over. DD – 101 for 6 after 17 overs, require 42 off the remaining 18 balls. Very difficult.
50-run stand up between Morris and Rabada! Two South Africans have stitched in a fine partnership between them for the 6th wicket. Rabada has done bulk of scoring here but we all know how dangerous Morris can be. Against Pune a few days ago, he scored 38* off 9 deliveries. Has played a sensible knock so far, but he can always change gears, isn’t it? Daredevils – 78 for 6, need 65 runs more in remaining 7 overs.
Kagiso Rabada showing promise! DD’s young top order failed to get going in the run chase but Rabada has played some fine shots in his sweet little knock. KG has timed his shots and kept the run chase interesting after that bizarre batting performance by Indian youngsters. DD – 69 for 6 after 12 overs!
Can Delhi Daredevils cross this, at least?
The lowest total in #IPL history is 58 in 15.1 overs by Rajasthan Royals vs RCB at Cape Town in 2009#MIvDD

Wickets keep tumbling! This is top stuff by MI. Daredevils batsmen have succumbed under the pressure completely. Even Nair falls as he looks to cut and the end result is a chop onto his stumps. 28 for 6 are the Daredevils – looks like they have a flight to catch after the match.
Unbelievable scenes! Half of the Delhi side is back in the hut as Bumrah strikes in his first over. Mumbai Indians are completely dominating the opposition. This shows how difficult it’s going to be to beat Mumbai this season. Pant is the man who fails to score and walks back to pavilion. DD – 22 for 5 in the 5th over.
Mumbai Indians on top! Corey Anderson walks back for a duck. No trouble for the scorers at all. McClenaghan is pumped up after getting his Kiwi team mate with an lbw dismissal. Nothing is working for Daredevils. Indian batsmen and the overseas batsman – both have struggled to get going in this match. DD – 21 for 4!
Three down are the Daredevils! The inexperienced top order of Delhi has failed in this run chase. All young guns are back in the hut in this chase already. 20 for 3 in the fourth over with 123 required still.
Sanju Samson dismissed by McClenaghan! On a length around off and Samson drives it uppishly to Rohit Sharma at mid off. Two quick wickets for Mumbai Indians and the Daredevils are making a mountain out of this mole hill. DD – 10 for 2 after 1.2!
OUT! Superb fielding by Hardik Pandya who gets rid of Aditya Tare with a direct hit. Collects the ball and has an under-arm throw at the bowler’s end. The batsman puts in the dive but fails to make it. DD – 1/1 after 0.4 overs!
Meanwhile, check out Virat Kohli’s tweet on MS Dhoni’s match-winning knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier in the day.
Ms Dhoni does what he’s done with so much confidence over the years. What a champion knock. Great to watch ?

Mumbai Indians end on 142/8! Excellent bowling by Delhi Daredevils tonight to restrict Mumbai to 142. 10 runs off the final over of MI’s innings. It’s a pretty mediocre effort by the Mumbai batsmen who have been humbled by a quality DD bowling attack. We’ll be back with the run chase in a while. Stay tuned in…
Simon Doull livid with the on-field umpire! The on-field umpire signals a no-ball against Rabada which is not actually a no ball. There’s some part of the bowler’s foot behind the line and replays confirm the same. The decision should be over-turned, that’s an “absolute rubbish” decision says Simon Doull on air! The free-hit is a dot ball – justice done. Meanwhile, Bhajji has been run out by KG too. Good soccer skills as he kicks it onto the stumps. 132 for 7 after 19 overs.
Kieron Pollard’s gone! No Pollard fireworks tonight. Pat Cummins outfoxes KP with a slower one and gets him in the end. It goes miles up in the air – gets the elevation but not the distance. Sanju baba settles under it and takes the catch. MI – 120 for 6 after 17.1 overs!
100 up for Mumbai Indians in 15th over! Just like most of the times, Kieron Pollard is playing a knock that has kept MI alive in this contest. The Big man needs to hit a couple of big ones in order to get that Mumbai crowd cheering for the home team. Also, with Hardik Pandya at the crease, MI can always get those quick runs towards the end of their innings. 110 for 5 after 16 overs.
Rohit Sharma has 49 runs in 5 innings. Maybe the best batsman in the @mipaltan team should bat where he most likes to.

Leg spinners who have dismissed Rohit Sharma in IPL 2017:
- Amit Mishra (DD)
- Samuel Badree (RCB)
- Rashid Khan (SRH)
- Imran Tahir (RPS)
- Sunil Narine (KKR)
Amit Mishra gets MI skipper! Rohit picks the googly but slog sweeps it straight to the fielder at deep square leg. Mumbai Indians are in deep trouble with Mumbai skipper “Hitman” back in the pavilion. Hasn’t been a hit show by the Hit-man this season so far. MI – 60 for 4 after 8.1 0vers!
This #DelhiDaredevils attack is making this game very interesting
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) April 22, 2017
Nitish Rana departs! Third wicket of the innings. Pat Cummins gets MI’s leading run-getter and puts the home team on the back foot. Easy catch for Corey Anderson in the deep. Mumbai Indians – 56 for 3 in the 8th overs!
Jos Buttler’s gone! So, the dropped catch hasn’t cost much tonight! Samson does well to get the direct hit and Jos is nowhere in the frame. Big wicket that! Rohit Sharma walks out after Buttler’s exit. MI – 47 for 2 after 6 overs.
What a waste of a wicket. @josbuttler was batting as only he can. Very expensive for @mipaltan
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) April 22, 2017
Knocked him over! An excellent yorker by Kagiso Rabada to dismiss Parthiv Patel. Fast, straight, unplayable. Patel looks to dig it out but fails to do so. The ball takes down Parthiv’s leg stump and young KG gets his debut IPL scalp. Mumbai Indians – 37 for 1 after 4 overs.
Risbhabh Pant drops Buttler’s catch! The keeper has let the bowler down after that drop. Chris Morris is not at all pleased with Pant and the look on his face explains it all. Buttler moves across to scoop but gets an edge instead. No harm done, as Pant puts it down. Buttler scored 70-odd against Punjab in the last match, let’s see how expensive this dropped catch will turn out to be. Mumbai Indians 29-0 after 3 overs.
Mitchell Johnson comes in for Lasith Malinga! Kagiso Rabada makes debut for Delhi Daredevils.
Let’s have a look at the points table!
Just as we said earlier, its just the start! #RPSvSRH #RangWahiJungNayi pic.twitter.com/9n8XpC6Nof
