Gujarat Lions will look to shrug off their indifferent form when they take on the under-performing Royal Challengers Bangalore in their home match at Surashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, on Tuesday. Lions and RCB both have been struggling to get going and need to win this match to get back on course in the tournament.
Gujarat Lions overview: Gujarat Lions were among the top four throughout the last season. But this season, their campaign has stuttered with just one win out of four. Lions have lacked the consistency in both batting and bowling. They have a side stacked with batsmen and this has hurt the team. Their bowling has been well below par. The good form of Andrew Tye with the ball is welcome news for Lions, but Tye has lacked support from the others so far. Lions need to pull up their socks against RCB.
Gujarat Lions strength: Batting is their strength with some great hard-hitters of the ball in Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina, Aaron Finch. If they fire, they will give little room for escape to the opposition. But they have not been as consistent as they would have liked to and that has hurt Lions, winning just one game out of four. They need to come good, to bat RCB out of the match.
Gujarat Lions weakness: Despite a fabulous debut for Andrew Tye, Lions bowling continues to be their biggest area of concern. There has not been sufficient support for Tye. Indian bowlers in Lions squad have leaked runs and have been ineffective. Their spin department has also been unable to make much impression. Ravindra Jadeja is back, but he is yet to find his groove. Shivil Kaushik disappointed with his performances so far. Lions need to sort out their bowling combination soon.
Gujarat Lions (Possible XI):
Suresh Raina (Captain),
RCB strength: Batting has always been RCB’s strength. But at the moment, they are caught in their own web. They just need one big knock from their marquee players to get some momentum into their batting. Virat Kohli knows that he has to lead by example with a good show with the bat. RCB have enough batting firepower to build on it. With AB de Villiers, Shane Watson, Mandeep Singh, Kedar Jadhav in the line-up, RCB will be hoping for their batting to take them through.
RCB weakness: RCB weakness has been their inability to play as a team. They have lacked consistency in their batting order and performances as well. They have not fired in unison. Their bowling has been exceptional at times and mediocre the next. RCB need to raise their games at all level to give themselves the best chance of qualifying for play-offs.
RCB (Possible XI):

AB de Villiers ✈️
