IPL 2017 Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – Match Prediction
Two-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians will take on defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad at their fortress “Wankhede” on Wednesday night. After losing against Rising Pune Supergiant in their first game, the Mumbai Indians bounced back in style against the Knight Riders and managed to pull off a thriller – young Nitish Rana and Hardik Pandya were the architects of that emphatic run chase against Gambhir’s Knights.
The battle is now against Sunrisers Hyderabad who have won both their previous matches and are looking a rock-solid opposition yet again. Their team will be bolstered with the return of Bangladesh’s sensation Mustafizur Rahman also known as ‘The Fizz’.
Mumbai Indians: Strengths
In-form Indian youngsters – Young Nitish Rana and Hardik Pandya have been at their best so far as they played pivotal knocks against Pune and Kolkata. Hardik absolutely took Ashoh Dinda’s bowling to the cleaners in Mumbai’s opening game and he did something similar against the KKR pacers two nights ago. Nitish Rana was the man of that match and there will be plenty of expectations from him going forward. Also, Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowlers against KKR as he took three crucial wickets and turned the match in Mumbai’s favour when Gambhir and Lynn were going strong.
Return of Malinga – Malinga wasn’t at his best in his first game of the season but Mumbai have always banked on Slinga to win matches in crunch situations. This is just the beginning of the season; and it’s certain that he’ll only get better in the upcoming games.
Mumbai Indians: Weakness
Skipper not at his best! Rohit Sharma hasn’t had a good start to the 2017 IPL after two low scores against Pune and Kolkata. Buttler and Parthiv have given the team good starts but MI need their most experienced batsman to get back in form if they want to make it to the knock out stage.
Pollard not firing! Pollard’s strike rate in IPL 10 is nowhere close to his usual batting strike rate. It seems as if the big West Indian is in the team only for his reputation. RCB dropped Chris Gayle in their previous game, but will Mumbai Indians do the same with Pollard and give another overseas player a chance to feature in the playing XI? Chances are small but they need to try and experiment with some other talented youngsters in that team. They have Asela Gunaratne in the squad who’s a handy all-rounder in this format. Will he get a chance to feature in the playing XI? All our answers will be answered in the upcoming games.
Mumbai Indians (Probable Playing XI) – Jos Buttler✈️, Parthiv Patel, Rohit Sharma(c), Nitish Rana, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard✈️, Harbhajan Singh, Lasith Malinga✈️, Tim Southee✈️, Jasprit Bumrah.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Strengths
The defending champions are living up to their reputation and look like a team that are difficult to beat. They have all their bases covered, right from their openers to the number 11 batsman in the team – everyone can chip in with useful contributions. Afghanistan leggie Rashid Khan has been the man of the season for SRH so far. He has lived up to expectations and has been among the wickets in his first IPL season.
Return of Mustafizur Rahman – ‘The Fizz’ is back in SRH’s squad and Captain Warner will be more than happy to have him in the team. Along with Rashid Khan, Mustafizur Rahman can run through batting line-ups in a jiffy. There are only four overseas players who can play in a team, hence that means Ben Cutting has to miss out in order for the side to accommodate Mustafizur in the playing XI.
Yuvraj Singh was sensational in the season opener and the Australian top order duo of Warner and Henriques have struck good form early in the season. They have the players that can help the Sunrisers defend their IPL title.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Weakness
None of their weak points have been highlighted as they have been clinical in IPL 10 so far. But yes, Sunrisers Hyderabad are playing their first away match of the season. They have won two in two and are up against a team who are difficult to beat in home conditions. They have all the resources that make SRH a champion side but will they be able to deliver their best against Mumbai in their backyard? It’s difficult but not impossible!
Sunrisers Hyderabad (Probable Playing XI) – Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner(c)✈️, Moises Henriques✈️, Yuvraj Singh, Deepak Hooda, Naman Ojha, Bipul Sharma, Rashid Khan✈️, Mustafizur Rahman✈️, Ashish Nehra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Pitch report – The pitch at Wankhede gets easy to bat towards the end of match as the dew factor makes it difficult for bowlers to grip the ball. Any team that wins the toss, elects to bowl on this surface and hence toss becomes an ‘important’ parameter in deciding the winner. Mumbai Indians scored 60 runs in their last 4 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders, this proves any kind of run chase is possible at this venue. “Win the toss, elect to field and win the match.”

Prediction – Sunrisers Hyderabad are playing against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede where Mumbai’s record is excellent. But looking at the form of their team and resources available, Sunrisers Hyderabad have an upper hand in this contest. Their top order is firing and so are all their bowlers. If Mustafizur Rahman and Rashid Khan – both play this game, SRH might choke Mumbai Indians in their backyard even if they bat first. Hence, looking at these factors we think Sunrisers Hyderabad are the favorites to win this contest.
Possible winner – Sunrisers Hyderabad
