Delhi Daredevils have been a bunch of underachievers. Their best record in IPL came in 2008 and 2009 when they ended up as losing semi-finalists. They finished in last four in 2008 under the leadership of Virender Sehwag. In 2009, they ended up as losing semi-finalists under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. They finished last in 2011 IPL.
In 2016, they started well, remaining in top four in the first half of the tournament, but lost steam in the second half, and could not make it to the play-offs. Under Zaheer Khan, they performed admirably and have the potential to do even better in this season.
However, they have been hampered with the loss of two key foreign players in JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock. They made few good purchases in Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins in 2017 IPL auctions. They also have few exciting local talent in Karun Nair and Rishabh Pant.
