Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan can easily be called one of the best all-rounders in modern day cricket. One of the prime reasons being Shakib’s valuable contribution towards the evolution of the Bangladesh cricket team in the past one decade. It has been 10 years since Shakib Al Hasan made his international debut in 2006 at a young age of 19. Since his arrival to the Bangladesh cricket team, Shakib Al Hasan has won number of matches for the Bangladesh cricket Tigers with his all-round contributions and often as a captain of the national side. If you have a look at Shakib’s statistics in Tests and ODIs, they are quite impressive. Having scored more than 4000 ODI runs and taken more than 200 wickets in the 50-over format, he has single-handedly redefined the term of an ‘all-rounder’ in the past few years. Shakib made his Test debut against India in 2007 and since he has been one of the pioneers of the national side.
Mohammad Nabi, on the other hand has been another all-rounder who has fought his way to gain this achievement of being called one of the prime all-rounders for Afghanistan as well as at the international level. Compared to Mohammad Nabi, Shakib Al Hasan has played a lot more at the international level but if you go back in time, you’ll see that Nabi has won a few mini battles when these two players have faced each other.
Mohammad Nabi knocks over Shakib Al Hasan in one of the matches during season three of Bangladesh Premier League:
Mohammad Nabi as a captain and as a player has contributed a lot towards the development of the Afghan Tigers too. And playing for various T20 franchisees across the world has helped his cause to improve his game in the shortest format of the sport. One of his best knocks in T20 cricket came during the inaugural season of PSL against the Lahore Qalandars wherein he scored a blistering 12-ball 30 to take Quetta Gladiators home in a nail-biting encounter.
Nabi scores 15 runs in the final over for Quetta Gladiators against Lahore Qalandars:
The statistics won’t justify the comparison between Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Nabi but their attitude and fighting spirit is of the same kind. These two players might face each other on Afghanistan’s tour of Bangladesh, so it’ll be interesting to watch this battle of all-rounders in the 3-match ODI series.
