Following their 47-run loss against the Kiwis, the Men in Blue have found themselves in a spot of bother as they’ll have to win all their remaining league matches in order to make it to the semis.
At the launch of the tournament, a team which was supposed to be the hot favorites was humbled by New Zealand on home soil in the opening encounter. India had a terrific run this year as they had only lost one T20I before the opening encounter of World T20. But who would have imagined that the Blackcaps would seize away this aura of invincibility from the Men in Blue.
Anyways, that was in the past and the Indian team now needs to focus on the future. It need not be a prisoner of the past but the architect of its future. This is not for the first time that team India has lost an opening match of a major event. They have bounced back many a times from such situations and ended on the winning side, haven’t they? You can say no other team knows to fight back better than the Indian team.
At the end of the match against New Zealand, skipper of the Indian team MS Dhoni said that, “Once you lose the first game, you are in a do-or-die situation. You can’t afford to lose anymore.” Dhoni also admitted that pressure is a part and parcel of the Indian cricket and they are used to it.
India are playing their next game against Pakistan at Eden Gardens and the encouraging sign for India going into that match is that they have a 100% win record against their arch rivals in World T20. With India having to win all their remaining games, hopefully that’ll bring the best out of them.
Against Bangladesh, the Men in Blue will fancy their chances but against the Aussies it’s going to be a difficult task. Although India has a good record against the Kangaroos in T20Is, it’s not going to be a cake-walk to thump Australia in a do-or-die contest. It’s intricate but not unattainable.
The pitches in Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chandigarh will be different from the one at Nagpur and the Men in Blue need to quickly adapt to these conditions if they have to keep their hopes of making it to the next round alive.
Can India do it once again? Can they bounce back and make it to the next round? Can they repeat the heroics of the past? Well, we shall find that out soon.
