With the hard hitting Baroda all-rounder Hardik Pandya coming into the set up, India has found a proper pace bowling all-rounder, which they have been looking for a long time.
The 22-year old had put up some excellent all-round performances of late and emerged as one of the important members of this Indian T20 side.
Pandya, who was talking with media persons in an open media session in Kolkata on Tuesday, revealed that he wants to follow the path of South Africa’s legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis. Pandya did not want to label himself as a batting or bowling all-rounder instead he termed himself that he is a player who can do everything.
“I am a proper all-rounder. I would not say I am a bowling all-rounder or batting all-rounder, I see myself as a player who can do everything,” he stated.
“I consider myself as a proper all-rounder. I just don’t want to restrict myself to one trade. I want to be like Kallis. Whatever he has done is exceptional and I want to be India’s Jacques Kallis,” the youngster said. He also informed that apart from Kallis, his Baroda teammate Irfan Pathan also is one of his inspirations.
Meanwhile the flamboyant cricketer also said that it was Sachin Tendulkar who first predicted that he will play for India.
“During the IPL he (Sachin) told me I would play for India in the next one and half years and I got selected for the National side just seven months later,” Pandya told reporters.
The upcoming ICC World T20 will be Pandya’s first world event and the youngster is excited to be part of it.
“I am really excited to be in my first World Cup. As a 22-year-old, one year back I just got picked for the MI (Mumbai Indians) team and now after one year I am here so now let us see how it goes,” he said.
