Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said on Monday that the World T20 match between India and Pakistan shouldn’t be played at Dharmasala, citing reasons of terrorism attacks from Pakistan.
“Seeing the attitude of Pakistan towards India and the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir where soldiers from Himachal Pradesh have also sacrificed their lives, at such a situation, cricket match with Pakistan should not take place, at least in Dharmasala,” Singh told reporters.
He also added saying “We have written to the Union Home Minister on behalf of the government regarding this matter. I think if the match takes place in Dharmasala, it would be against the will of the people of Himachal Pradesh”.
Earlier Pakistan Cricket Board chairman confirmed that Pakistan government has given them the permission to play in the World T20 in India and that it’s up to the Indian government now to arrange proper security so that the match will be held in the right spirit.
“We have got permission from our government to go into the World Cup T20. Now, the security is India’s responsibility. I am sure the public there will want us to play matches”, said PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan.
It will be interesting to see BCCI’s reaction to this new Indo – Pak issue and if not in Dharmasala, where will India play their arch rivals in the World T20.
