Defending champions Sri Lanka will commence their campaign in the Asia Cup T20 with an encounter against qualifiers United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday. The Lankans are coming into his tournament following a series defeat against India.
Thus, getting back into winning ways will be Sri Lanka’s prime target in this match. UAE on the other hand, will look to compete against the current World Champions in this format.
Sri Lanka will be boosted with the return of Lasith Malinga, who will lead them in this tournament and ODI and Test skipper Angelo Mathews. These two senior Pros will add the experience, which this side lacked in India. Apart from them, the likes of Dinesh Chandimal, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Thissara Perera and Rangana Herath will be the other key members of the side.
The team also has talented youngsters like Dushmantha Chameera, Shehan Jayasuriya, Dasun Shanaka. They will add the flamboyance. Thus this Sri Lanka side has a nice blend of youth and experience.
UAE on the other hand is on a roll at this moment. After outclassing the likes of Afghanistan, Hong Kong and Oman, they qualified for this event. Now they would like to keep the good work going. It is not often they get the opportunity to play against the big boys, so the boys would like to make full use of it.
The weather forecast for this game is not that good as thunderstorms is expected in Dhaka on Thursday evening. Beside this, the 22-yard at the Sher-e-Bangla also offers a lot of help for the faster bowlers and UAE has a couple of decent pacers who can surprise the Islanders. This should be one interesting match to watch out for.
