MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina have played only for Chennai Super Kings in IPL till now. But the 2016 edition will see both of them playing against each other for different IPL franchisees. While Raina will lead Gujarat Lions, Dhoni will captain Rising Pune Supergiants. But like Dhoni, Raina too will be emotional playing for a different franchisee after having played all his life for CSK.
Raina was quoted as saying, “”I have played for CSK non-stop for eight years without missing a single game. So it will be emotional for me. But at the same time, we have a very good team at the Gujarat Lions.”
The southpaw is set to captainGujarat Lions. He, however, is not at all nervous about captaining an IPL side for the first time and said captaincy is just another designation for him.
“Captaincy is just a designation for me. It is the performance that wins you matches. It is all about how one performs on a particular day. My job is simple. I have to deliver for the Gujarat Lions. We will have a camp in Gujarat with domestic players before IPL. It is important to have a balanced team with good domestic players,” he said.
Right now, the Indian team will play in the Asia Cup before joining forces for the World T20 and then the IPL. Raina will bat at No 4 for Team India instead of the usual No 3 spot he played for his old team, CSK. Will it create any problem for him?
Raina dismissed the suggestion, stating, “I don’t see it as a problem as we have big hitters across all slots. Yuvraj Singh, Hardik Pandya can play big shots. It is important to now maintain a consistent performance graph from here till the World T20. We have a good mix of youth and experience in our team. There are members of the 2007 World T20 team as well as the 2011 World Cup team, we are fortunate to have them.”
