Gurkeerat Singh Mann was rewarded for his consistent all-round performance with a place in the Indian ODI squad for the series against South Africa next month. But rather than being thrilled and excited, Gurkeerat is rather surprised at his inclusion. “I was a little shocked, but it is a great feeling. I have a very good opportunity to cement a place in the Indian side,” Gurkeerat said.
The Punjab cricketer considers MS Dhoni as his role model as both do the finishing acts for their respective teams. Gurkeerat said, “We bat at the same spot for our teams. I can relate to his batting style a lot. Whenever I see an India match, I focus on his batting and learn from him.”
On the other side, Sreenath Aravind, who has been selected in the T20 squad against South Africa, is more than happy and looking forward to the opportunity to don Indian colours. “When I was selected for the England series in 2011, I could not find a place in the playing eleven. This time, if the chance comes, I’ll be thrilled to take it,” he said.
Aravind said the IPL experience was a big learning experience for him. “In IPL, we play against international players and tackle the same type of pressure that is there in international matches,” he said.
