With a five-wicket haul to his name on Day 3 of the Colombo Test, Team India pacer Ishant Sharma spoke to the media at the SSC as to what India really need to do in the last two days to win the game and series.
Here are excerpts from that interview.
What was your game plan going in to bowl on Sunday?
IS): Simple. The idea was to bowl to a good area and hit the correct line and length and get wickets.
India’s batting on Day four?
IS): We have to aim for 300 plus to win the game. If we bat the same way as we did in the first essay then there is a huge chance of us (India) winning this game.
How was it bowling with the new ball?
IS): It felt great especially since I shortened my run up. The ball was moving well and it assisted me to notch up superb figures.
The two-paced wicket at SSC?
IS): Yes even their (Sri Lanka) bowlers got early breakthrough thanks to the fact that on this kind of a wicket you simply need to hit the right length and allow the ball to do the rest. Our target now is to get a good score on board and then put pressure on Sri Lanka by bowling the right lengths and setting a good field.
IS): I do not think these things while bowling. My area of concern is to hit the right line and length and take wickets. If the younger players accept my advice then well and good, else they can do what they like.
IS): I am working on those things in the nets. I do not take undue pressure about such things and try to perfect my run-up and technique in the practice sessions.
