The lucrative Indian Premier League enters its eighth season as top players from Indian and around the world gather to battle it out for the top prize and also be crowned as the numero uno T20 team. Amongst all these pool of players, Yuvraj Singh stands apart. The Daredevils player, who was left out by Royal Challengers Bangalore outfit, was subjected to a mammoth bid of Rs 16 crore and will need to make himself count if the southpaw dreams of making into the Indian squad.
With Ravindra Jadeja’s unimpressive performances especially at the World Cup, Yuvraj can stake a claim in MS Dhoni’s ODI plans. With the IPL kicking off this Thursday, all eyes will be on ‘Yuvi’ who returns to the T20 scene.
The former India player was speaking to an English news channel that he is looking forward to playing for India again and is still good friends with India ODI skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Last week Delhi’s coach Gary Kirsten praised Yuvraj and said the latter was motivated more than ever to perform in the IPL.
Yuvraj needs a decent Indian Premier League this year if he could return to the Indian colours. The middle-order batsman was left out from World Cup squad in Australia-New Zealand but has vowed to make a good return. “Yeah that’s the goal (returning to the Indian team). Obviously I feel I’ve got few years to play international cricket. I am going to try and do best at the IPL and try and get back into the team,” Yuvraj was quoted in Sport360.
‘Yuvi’ batsman further stated that the 16 million tag doesn’t put pressure on him. He adds, “I look it as a great opportunity and people still think I have it in me. I just need to prove myself that I am good player and prove at that next level.”
As the cash-rich tournament enters its 8th edition, Yuvraj leads the list of hopefuls who are eyeing a comeback to the Indian cricket team and a good outing for Delhi is all that he needs now.
