With Team India all set to kick-off proceedings against arch-rivals Pakistan in their World Cup opener on Sunday, good news for the Men in Blue fans is that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is fit and raring to go. Injury-plagued medium pacer continued his recovery as he bowled at the nets Friday during India’s practice session ahead of the blockbuster clash.
The 25-year-old missed the first three Tests against Australia due to an ankle injury and played only two matches of the Tri-series against Australia and England. In the second warm-up game against Afghanistan, he bowled five overs but there were question marks over his fitness.
But putting all those issues to bed, Indian skipper MS Dhoni reinstated that all 15 players are fit for the epic clash. “I can also proudly announce that all 15 are fit and available for selection — unless something happens between now and tomorrow,” Dhoni said in the press conference ahead of the India-Pakistan tie.
But if reports are to go by, Kumar had a shorter run-up and neither did he bend at full stretch. But the return of 25-year old in the bowling line-up could be a huge boost ahead of the Pakistan tie as MS Dhoni saw the back of experienced Ishant Sharma who has returned home due to an injury.
Furthermore, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a handy customer with the bat as well. Even if Dhoni decides to play Stuart Binny in the final XI, Bhuvneshwar could also chalk up some runs. Who could forget his two consecutive half-centuries in the 1st Test against England in 2014 as despite India losing the series 3-1, ‘Bhuvi’ was adjudged Man of the Series.
MS Dhoni sees Bhuvneshwar as one of the ‘primary arsenal’ for India as far as bowling is concerned and even as the UP-born might have not clicked so far with the ball, things could change over a period of time.
