New Zealand proved too strong for South Africa during the warm-up game ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, which starts on 14th February. The Kiwis scored 331 for eight before rattling the Proteas’ batting line-up as they struggled 62 for six through the 14th over.
Paceman Trent Boult, who finished with five for 51 was the key bowler for New Zealand while Duminy scored 80 and Philander scored 57 for South Africa. The tourists’ final total of 197 all out in less than 45 overs was a relatively poor effort.
The Black Caps put in a perfect performance with every player doing his job. Every player reached double figures but nobody played a big inning. Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson were the two half-centurions for the hosts.
South Africa’s bowling department looked lacklustre without Dale Steyn, who was rested along with Hashim Amla. Philander, Kyle Abbott and Wayne Parnell grabbed two wickets each while Farhaan Behardien was not able to bat or bowl because of a back injury.
