The 2020 Women’s T20 Challenge is all set to kick start with the 2019 finalists, Harmanpreet Kaur led Supernovas set to take on the Mithali raj led Velocity at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Despite the several obstacles and the pandemic taking over the sporting world. The Indian Premier League 2020 came as a huge relief to the fans all over the World, IPL is one of the most celebrated Global T20 Leagues in the World and has featured 13 editions till date.
In an effort to popularize women’s cricket the Board of Control of Cricket had come up with an initiative to conduct an one- off match between the two teams, namely- Trail Blazers and Supernovas. The 2019 edition saw a change in the format as it was made into a three team round robin and final format. Both the titles have been won by the Supernovas and have proven to be a great force in the last two seasons.
The last time the two sides met was at the 2019 Women’s T20 Challenge where the match went in favor of the Supernovas and further went to claim their 2nd consecutive title. Supernova’s after winning the toss put Velocity to bat first. The Velocity were reduced to 37/5 in the first 8 overs, but a splendid 71 runs stand between Sushma Verma and Amelia Kerr ensured the team reached a decent total of 121. The Velocity did do a wonderful job to check the Supernovas in check throughout the game but a well paced classy fifty by the captain Harmanpreet Kaur ensured the Supernovas went to claim the silverware.
