The Indian Premier League is known as one of the richest sports leagues. It is officially the richest tournament in the cricketing world and this one of the reasons all the players love to have the share of the pie. The tournament, apart from just printing money, is also one of the best platforms in the world where the players get to showcase their talents. As many as 50 players have made it to the International stream post their performance in the IPL.
The tournament which is scheduled to be held in UAE this time amid the soaring cases of Covid-19 in India is set to start from the 19th of September. The tournament which was sponsored by Vivo from 2016, will now have a new sponsor from this year. The official confirmation on the new sponsor is yet to be announced.
With such cash flowing into the tournament. Cricwizz takes a look into the highest paid Indian players in the IPL.
1) Virat Kohli
No surprises as such. Anyone would have guessed it right. Yes, the current Indian Captain and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain is the highest paid player in the IPL. He tops with the list by earning a whopping 17 crores. Though it was not the same for the Best batsman in the World. His inaugural IPL season saw him earning 12 Lakhs. Which is now almost 100 times less than what the right-hander is earning now. This shows his phenomenal growth as a player.
The 31-year old is the highest run-getter in IPL with 5412 runs under his belt.
2) Pat Cummins
The Australian Pacer is relatively inexperienced in the IPL with just three seasons to his name. He was part of 2014 and 2015 KKR squad and later was purchased by Delhi Capitals in 2017 for 4.5 crs. But with his International career being at its peak and him dominating the batsman, His parent IPL team KKR decided he was the man they were looking at and bagged him at a whopping 15.5 crs which shattered all records and now stands as the most expensive foreign player in the history of IPL. In a matter of 2 years he rose to 3 times his price tag only shows how important a player he could prove to be.
3) MS Dhoni
No list is complete without the now retired MS Dhoni. The former Indian captain and current Chennai Super Kings is considered one of the best captains in the World and to back those claims he is paid an enormous amount of 15 crores. He was part of the CSK franchise since the inaugural IPL where he was purchased for 6 crores which made him the most expensive player in IPL back then. Since then the franchise has done everything to retain him and now earns almost three times of what he earned in his first IPL season.
4) Rohit Sharma
Yet another captain makes it to the list and this time it is the Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma. The ‘Hitman’ could price himself just for his batting, but he adds the additional suit of captaincy which makes him one of the players any team would love to have. The Indian opener was bagged for 3 crores by Deccan Chargers in 2008 and was later bought by Mumbai Indians for 9.2 crs. The Right-hand is now the most successful captain in the IPL history with 4 titles and is also the 3rd highest run-getter in the league with 4898 runs to his name. He was retained by Mumbai Indians in 2019 for a massive 15 crs.
5) Rishabh Pant
The youngster makes the cut just marginally ahead of Ben Stokes who holds a price tag of 14.5 crs. Pant was bought by Delhi Capitals in 2016 for a bargain for 1.9 crs and later went to catch the eyes by scoring a 50 of 25 balls which consisted of high class attacking strokes.
