Ishan Kishan recently cracked a fifty on his ODI debut and that too on his birthday in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. He had given a premonition of what will come when he had slammed the first ball he had faced in the match for a six. Kishan also walked into the record books by cracking the second-fastest fifty on ODI debut.

So, here is the list of cricketers who have made the fastest fifty on ODI debut.

Pandya came out to bat at a difficult time for India on his debut. India was struggling at 205/5 in 40.3 overs when Pandya came out to bat at the fall of his brother Hardik Pandya’s wicket. He and KL Rahul then played brilliant counter-attacking innings to put up an unbeaten 112-run stand in just 9.3 overs to help India post 317/5. Pandya then walked into record books with the fastest fifty on ODI debut, reaching his landmark in just 26 balls. He ended up with 58 not out off 31 balls. India won that match.

Ishan Kishan (India)

Kishan has already made up his mind to attack from the first ball, slamming the first ball on ODI debut for a six against Sri Lanka. He later revealed he had told his teammates that irrespective of the ball or bowler, he would hit a six on the first ball. The attacking mindset helped Kishan raced to the second-fastest fifty on his ODI debut off 33 balls. He ended up with 42-ball 59 as India won the match comfortably. Kishan also became the only Indian player to hit a fifty on both ODI and T20I debut, and overall, the second player after Rassie van der Dussen of South Africa.

Rolald Butcher (England)

Playing his first ODI against Australia in 1980, Butcher, who was batting at No 4 in the match, kept the momentum going by racing to a 50 off 35 balls. However, it was opener Graham Gooch who walked away with the limelight as he scored 108 in England win. Butcher’s fastest fifty on debut stood for 10 years before it was equalled by another England player. Butcher would play another 2 ODIs and add just 6 runs to his ODI career total.

John Morris (England)

England’s Morris equalled Butcher’s fastest fifty on ODI debut record against New Zealand in 1990. Morris almost had a dream debut, top-scoring for his team with 63 not out, including equalling the fastest fifty on the ODI debut record, but his knock went in vain as England lost a close match by 7 runs. Morris could play only 8 ODIs for England, aggregating 167 runs. But he was highly successful in first-class and List A matches, totalling close to 30,000 runs.

Ben Hollioake (England)

Hollioake then scored the second-fastest fifty on his ODI debut in 1997 when he reached fifty off 37 balls. He also ended up on the winning side as England defeated Australia by 6 wickets. Chasing 270 for a win, Hollioake made 63 batting at No 3 to lend a good supporting hand in the win. However, Hollioake could play just 20 ODIs and scored 309 runs with 2 fifties before he lost his life in a car crash in 2002. He was just 24 then.
