The star-studded of commentators was put out recently that will specifically help in making every fan’s Indian Premier League experience a beautiful one. The commentary panel includes some high-profile names including the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Ian Bishop, Danny Morrison and Harsha Bhogle and several famous cricketers but one name that used be incorporated by default but was not announced was Sanjay Manjrekar.
IPL 2020 is broadcasted on Star Sports and Star Sports have named a list for Hindi and other languages too but Sanjay is in none of them. Even former Indian chief selectors Kris Srikkanth and MSK Prasad will be a part of the commentary box for Tamil and Telugu languages while Sanjay Bangar will be a new name of the Hindi commentary panel.
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) also showed displeasure and disagreement as Manjrekar was blatantly kept out even though the veteran had written to the BCCI that he will work within the guidelines set earlier in the past. MCA Apex Council member Nadeem Memon has written a letter to BCCI’s president, Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah lauding Manjrekar and his capabilities as a commentator, also mentioning his partnership with Sunil Gavaskar in the commentary box.
The former right-handed batsman had a complete fallout in his relationship with BCCI after he was seen indulging with Ravindra Jadeja in a verbal battle, calling the all-rounder a ‘bits and pieces’ cricketer on social media just before India’s exit from the World Cup in 2019.
The letter written to BCCI by Manjrekar had every issue mentioned including his war of words with Jadeja yet he was not picked. As it took no longer for the letter to leak, Memon defended Sanjay saying that the commentator has already clarified his issues and has accepted to strictly work within the rules and guidelines.
Memon also said that Sanjay Manjrekar’s father Vijay Manjrekar was also a big representative of India in the sport and that is why he should be reinstated considering all the years of service he has done for the country.
