The Indian Premier League which is considered one of the most prestigious T20 leagues in the world has gained audiences all over the globe and lured in most of the big names in the sport. With 12 seasons of IPL taking place till date, there have been several records created and some being shattered too. 

The sport has always been a game of numbers and Cricwizz now takes a look at the 5 most significant numbers in the history of the tournament.

1) 4- Number of times Mumbai Indians have won the IPL title

The final of the 2019 IPL was undoubtedly one of the best finals to take place in the history of IPL. Mumbai Indians managed to come out as the winners by a mere margin for 1 run and the victory meant they lifted the trophy for a record 4 times which is one more than their rivals Chennai Super Kings and made Mumbai Indians the most successful team in the IPL.

Mumbai Indians won their maiden IPL in 2013 and later went on to win it every alternate year till 2019 under the captaincy of Indian flamboyant opener Rohit Sharma.

2) 263- The highest team total recorded in IPL

In 2013, The match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Pune Warriors saw RCB notch up the highest ever team total in the history of IPL. The match witnessed many records being shattered with the most noticeable being the innings of RCB opener Chris Gayle who amassed 175 runs of just 66 balls and registered the highest ever individual score in the history of IPL.

3) 37-  Most runs scored in an over

The feat was achieved by the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle of RCB against Kochi Tuskers in the 2011 IPL. Royal Challengers Bangalore were given a low score to chase given the standards of the Chinnaswamy pitch and the left-hander looked like he was playing in his backyard. The over begins with a maximum with all the remaining deliveries going for boundaries.

RCB eventually chased the score down in mere 13.1 overs with Gayle scoring 44 runs of mere 16 balls.

4) 49- the lowest team total in IPL

We saw RCB scoring the highest team total ever in the history of IPL but to everyone's surprise the team also has the infamous record of the lowest team total in the history of the league. The match against KKR took place in 2017, the pitch was a very slow one where the batsmen were struggling. KKR managed to put up 131 runs on the board which seemed a fighting total but the total turned out to be a dominating one when the Bangalore side were dismissed for 49, registering the lowest score ever.

5) 5412 - The runs scored by Virat Kohli in IPL

Yet another RCB player makes it to the list making the list completely RCB.  With several records in the name one may be wondering how come the team has not won the IPL yet right?

The current Indian captain has been a prolific run scorer throughout his career and it is no surprise he is the highest run-scorer in IPL as well. The 31- year old has 5412 runs to his name and also holds the record for the most runs scored in a single season by a player in IPL with a jaw-dropping 973 runs in the IPL 2016.
