Devdutt Padikkal and Jos Buttler provided the much-needed rhythm to RR batting as Jos Buttler notched up his second ton of the season. While Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sanju Samson complemented Jos Buttler as they pushed the score to 217 runs.
As Rajasthan Royals’ batters displayed a top-notch performance against KKR and slammed 217 runs to record the highest total in PL 2022; while doing so they also broke CSK’s record of 213 of this season.
# This was also the 13th time the Royals breached the 200 mark in IPL.

Jos Buttler leads the orange cap race with the most runs in IPL 2022, and against KKR, he bolstered his lead with a ton and now has 375 runs under his belt. Buttler has been phenomenal in IPL 2022 as he was leading the RR’s batting department this season.
He yielded another high-quality performance in yesterday's match as he bagged his second ton of IPL 2022. The Englishman was the man who powered RR to 217 runs. Later he was dismissed by Pat Cummins on 103 runs.
Although his second ton means he is now the sixth player to score two or more tons in a single season of IPL after Chris Gayle, 2012 Virat Kohli, 2016 Hashim Amla, 2017 Shane Watson, 2018 and Shikhar Dhawan, 2020.
#3 three tons in IPL 2022
We are not even halfway through the IPL 2022, but we have already witnessed three tons have been scored in IPL 2022. KL Rahul and Jos Buttler are the only players to have scored tons. Buttler has slammed twice while KL Rahul once.
We are just in the first half of the IPL season, and we have already seen three tons have been made. Will the batters able to score and break the record of most tons in a season (7). Well, the time will tell.
List of most tons scored in a single season
|Year||No.of tons||Highest individual score|
|2016||7||Ab de Villiers (129*)|
|2008,2011,2012, 2019||6||Brendon McCullum (158*)|
|2017, 2018, 2020||5||KL Rahul (132*)|
#4 Andrew Russel castled
For the first time in IPL history, Andrew Russell was bowled by a spinner And it was a match-changing delivery for the veteran off-spinner to dismiss Russel, who has been a back-bone for KKR batting.
Russel came in no.5 hoping to change the scenario of the match, and it was Ashwin who was serving the batsman in the 14th over. The off-spinner delivered a good length ball, and the right-hand batsman attempted a forward defense, but suddenly the ball diverged slightly and went straight toward stumps as Russel was dismissed bowled for the first time by a spinner in IPL history.
#5 Yuzvendra Chahal makes history
Yuzvendra Chahal was on cloud 9 as he inspired the RR bowling and accumulated three wickets on the trot, and created history. Chahal took the match on his head and guided RR to an impressive 7-runs victory in a match that turned around the course of the game during intervals.
Chahal sent Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi, and Pat Cummins packing in the 17th over. However, overall he took five wickets and was the 22nd player to take a hat-trick in IPL and the fifth Rajasthan Royals bowler to take a hattrick after Ajit Chandila in 2012, Pravin Tambe in 2014, Shane Watson in 2014, and Shreyas Gopal.
# This was also the most expensive 5-wicket haul in IPL history (40 runs). However, considering 417 runs were scored in the 40 overs, Chahal has done an impeccable job to pick 5 wickets.
# All in one
The game was dominated by two stars of the format, with the bat we had Jos Buttler who was in the form of his life, and on the other hand, we had Chahal who caused chaos with the ball. This was the first time ever in the history of IPL that a match had a century, a hat-trick, and a 5-wicket haul. Well, the odds of even one of these happening is very high, it was indeed a special match for the IPL.
