Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer seemed to have been in some trouble after remarking on former team mentor and current BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly. Iyer was recorded saying that it is due to the guidance of Delhi head coach Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly that his task became easier.

Iyer told Simon Doull in the post-match conference after Delhi’s fortunate win against Kings XI Punjab that he was very pleased with the way both Ponting and Ganguly made his job easy. His comments caused consternation and several journalists began questioning their concerns related to ‘conflict of issue’.

Iyer wasted no time and was on the job to clarify his remarks. He stated that his comments were with respect to the way in which the two legends have nurtured the youngster in his early days and he also made it clear that he only desired to express his gratitude towards them. Iyer took Twitter to clarify the misconception his comments had caused.

He wrote, “My comment yesterday was to emphasize my gratitude towards the role they both have played in my personal growth as a captain.” Another situation where Dada made headlines was another conflict of interest issue as questions arose against his dual role as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and mentor of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.

The increasing objections led to Ganguly stepping down from his role at Delhi Capitals. Ganguly is currently serving as the president of the cricket board as mentioned above. However, due to the pandemic situation, his term extension is yet hanging in the Supreme Court as he had to take a mandatory cooling-off break.

After Iyer’s clarification, it is expected that the heat on social media cools down and every game gets as interesting as it can get.
