IPL 2020 is nearing its end. Some players have punched above their waist and came into reckoning in this season. There have been some players whose base price has been below Rs 1 crore, but they have gone to give high returns to their teams. Here is a list of those players in this IPL season.
1) Varun Chakravarthy
Base price of Rs 30 lakh
Sold to KKR for Rs 4 crore
Chakravarthy has had a base price of just Rs 30 lakh, but KKR bagged him after a bidding war for Rs 4 crore. They wanted him to bowl in tandem with Sunil Narine and add muscle to the spin department. But Chakravarthy has outsmarted his senior partner and has been the trump card for KKR this season. He has bagged 15 wickets in 12 matches so far, with a five-wicket haul – the only player to do so this season. His IPL success saw him make an entry into the Indian national team for the Australia tour.
2) Isuru Udana
Base price of Rs 50 lakh
Sold to RCB for Rs 50 lakh
RCB went for Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Isuru Udana after dumping veteran bowler Dale Steyn who leaked runs in the first two matches he played this season. Udana was bought for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. He has shown great skills and bagged crucial wickets for RCB this IPL season. He has bagged 7 wickets in 8 games so far but has shown great competitiveness and the knack for picking up wickets at crucial stages of the game. He has also provided variety to the RCB bowling attack.
3) Chris Jordan
Base price of Rs 75 lakh
Sold to KXIP for Rs 3 crore
KXIP gambled on Chris Jordan after he underperformed in the previous IPL seasons for RCB and SRH. KXIP paid Rs 3 crore for Jordan who had a base price of Rs 75 lakh. But Jordan has proved his critics wrong this IPL season, bowling crucial death overs for KXIP. His best performance came in the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad when he bagged 3/17 to bowl Punjab to a 12-run win to snatch victory from jaws of defeat.
4) Priyam Garg
Base price of Rs 20 lakh
Sold to SRH for Rs 1.90 crore
SRH have invested in 19-year-old Priyam Garg, spending Rs 1.90 crore, almost 10 times more than his base price of Rs 20 lakh. But Garg showed what's he capable of when he came up with a match-winning knock of 51 not out against Chennai Super Kings. Although he is yet to come up with consistent big scores, Garg has proved he is a player of the future and has the potential to do well.
