Chennai Super Kings will host Delhi Capitals in the 7th match of the Indian Premier League 2020 which is set to take place at the Dubai International Stadium. Delhi Capitals had a close encounter in their first match which went down to the super over against Kings Xl Punjab. The two teams were really difficult to separate that evening but the poor show by K.L Rahul and Co. in the super over meant Delhi opened their account with a win.
Chennai Super Kings on the other side had a wonderful beginning to their campaign as they defeated the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opening match of the IPL 2020. CSK started out as the favorites to win their second match against Rajasthan Royals. But Smith’s team had other plans as they ended up scoring 217 runs, which did indeed turn out to be a winning total.
Once again CSK will start the match as favorites. They have a very good record against the DC as the last 3 encounters have gone the way of the Men in Yellow.
Can Shreyas Iyer and Co. end the losing streak against the Old Daddies?
Head to Head
Matches played- 21, CSK- 15, DC- 6. N/R- 0
Both the teams have injury concerns going into the match. Ambati Rayudu after his heroic innings in the first match could not make to the playing Xl against RR because of his injury. But as per latest reports both Dwayne Bravo and Rayudu are expected to be fully fit by the 2nd of October. The return of the two star players will definitely be a boost for the CSK camp.
Delhi Capital’s star all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin had a bad landing while attempting to field the ball in the match against Kings Xl Punjab and was immediately taken out of the ground for further investigating the injury. Though the off-spinner did say he was match fit, the DC captain stated the final call is for the physio to take.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch in Dubai looks more batsman friendly than it was expected to be as batsmen have been playing some good strokes and the scoring rate has been on the higher side too. But, the weather has reported to be overcast for tomorrow which may aid the pacers for a change this time.
As seen in the other matches, once the pitch starts to slow down, the spinners are seen having a good time.
The temperature is expected to be hovering in the 33 degree range with humidity likely to reach 66%. As seen in this edition of IPL, due has played a very important role and the same can be expected for this clash. The team winning the toss for that reason will likely be looking to chase.
Probable Playing Xl
Chennai Super Kings (CSK): Murali Vijay, Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, MS Dhoni (C & wk), Kedar Jadhav, Deepak Chahar, Piyush Chawla, Lungi Ngidi
Delhi Capitals (DC): Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin/Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Mohit Sharma
Shane Watson(CSK) vs Kagiso Rabada(DC)
It is quite hard to believe that Shane Watson is one of the oldest players in the IPL 2020. The Australian who is closing into the forties continues to smoke huge sixes out of the park. He did find it tough to get going in the first match against MI. But he was all out blazing in the second match where the veteran smoked four maximums.
On the other side Kagiso Rabada is one of the best bowlers in the IPL and has a very good economy rate. He is a who does not leak runs and loves to hit the deck hard. It would be interesting to see how the South African youngster bowls to the CSK veteran.
Will the veteran punish the proteas pacer or will it be the other way around?
Rishabh Pant(DC) vs Ravindra Jadeja(CSK)
The star CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has had a mediocre season so far given his standards. There is no doubt that the left-hander can be a huge threat to the opposition with both the ball and bat. Add to that his electric fielding which makes him one of the best fielders in the world.
On the other side we have the most expensive player in the DC squad- Rishabh Pant. The wicket-keeper batsman is one of the most talked about players in the country solely because of his ability to clear the boundary at will and fearless approach. He is also a fine wicket-keeper who is curious behind the stumps.
Pant is someone who loves to clear his foot and play the shots. Jadeja is one of the few bowlers who does not mind tossing the ball up. It would be a great battle between the two as both the players will not be holding back.
Delhi Capitals are coming in after a close win over Kings Xl Punjab. While, CSK were stunned by the Rajasthan Royals. Both the teams have injury concerns. Given that, CSK seem to be more on the winning side as they have a very experienced captain and team and know very well on how to go about things.
Delhi Capitals almost gave a match which they were supposed to win with ease. Chennai Super Kings after conceding 217 runs did fight back well to reach 200 which showed any score less than 200 could be chased down by the Men in Yellow.
Delhi Capitals have a very poor record against CSK, winning only 6 games out of the 21 games played between the two sides. Moreover, Delhi Capitals are on a three match losing streak against MS Dhoni and Co. and will be looking to end the streak.
