The Indian side once again managed to come out victorious against the World No.1 side and this time around it was in the 50 -over format. The three-match series now stands in favor of the hosts 1-0, and with two matches left in the bank, the English side will definitely be feeling the pressure. The second match between the top nations in the world is scheduled to take place at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune, this Friday.

The match will also hold importance in regards to the ICC ODI team rankings as a 3-0 whitewash here by the hosts will see them climb to the top of the ladder replacing the 2019 ICC World Cup champions.

The 1st ODI saw the visitors win the toss for the 8th time of the 10 encounters in this tour and the right decision to bowl first was made by the skipper- Eoin Morgan. The Indian Openers- Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan had a very cautious start to their innings but the skipper innings along with the quick-fire fifties of KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya ensured that they got to a total of 317 in their 50 overs.

The Englishmen in reply came out all guns blazing as Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy stitched together 135 runs for the first wicket in just 14 overs. England were well in the driver’s seat to take the 1-0 lead but a sensational comeback by Indian bowlers meant the England side lost their 10 wickets for just 116 runs and ended up on the losing side by 66 runs. Once again it was the debutants who impressed the most.

Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4 wickets at the cost of 54 overs in his 8 overs. While, Krunal Pandya set the stadium ablaze with his incredible hitting capability, scoring 58 runs of 31 balls and also recorded the fastest fifty by a debutant in the history of ODI.

Can the World No.1 side bounce back to level the series? Or will it the Indians who wrap up the proceedings in their favor?

Weather Report

The conditions are ideal for cricket as clear skies are expected throughout the course of the day and no chance of rain whatsoever is forecasted. The temperature though is predicted to be on the higher side, hovering around 40-35 degree Celsius range and the humidity is anticipated to touch the 14 percent at peak.

Pitch

The strip in MCA is definitely in favor of the batsmen but it does offer the pacers bounce and movement early in the innings. The spinners did not have a great time as spinners of both sides learned the lesson the hard way. The toss as expected did not play a vital role but the dew factor could help the team batting second. We might be looking at a match aggregate of around the 600 mark once again.

Team News

Team India have been struck with huge blows in form of Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, who suffered injuries in the 1st ODI. As per the latest reports the Delhi Capitals skipper, Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the current series and also the upcoming season of IPL which does mean the flamboyant middle-order batsman- Suryakumar Yadav could be making his ODI debut.

There are still no updates on the fitness status of Rohit Sharma but in case the opener is not able to make it to the playing Xl, he is likely to be replaced by the youngster Shubman Gill.

England too were dealt with two huge blows in form of their skipper- Eoin Morgan, who had to pad up with stitches on his webbing. Further to their misery, their key middle-order batsman- Sam Billings was also seen to be in trouble with a sprained shoulder. It does look highly unlikely for the two to make the cut and the leadership role is likely to be taken up by the all-rounder Ben Stokes. Liam Livingstone and Dawid Malan are likely to cover up for the injured pair.
