Former Indian cricketer, Mohammad Kaif, who has been known as one of best fielders alongside another former colleague of his, Yuvraj Singh, has said that the current Indian team does not have a "complete package" at their disposal when it comes to the prospect of fielding in recent times. He has said that since the departure of him and Yuvraj, the Men in Blue have suffered a significant low time when it comes to fielding.

Speaking recently on the YouTube channel Sports Screen, Kaif said, “A great batsman is a complete package. He can play cut, hook, pull, inswing delivery, a bouncer, hit a six... it is same with fielding. Similarly, a fielder is a complete package when you know how to slide, when you throw directly at the wickets, when you can run fast, when your hands make a proper shape to hold the ball - if you do all these things right, then you become a complete fielder.”

He added, “Me and Yuvraj made our names through our fielding. You can find several good fielders in the Indian cricket team now. They have improved a lot. But no one has been able to become a complete package in fielding. A player who can take catch at slips, take catch at short leg, field well at long on - that package is currently missing.”

However, speaking about the pick of the fielders in the current Indian team, Kaif spoke about Ravindra Jadeja as an exceptional fielder. He also praised bowlers like Jaspreet Bumrah and Ishant Sharma to have raised their standards in fielding. Kaif also heaped praise on the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for setting new standards in fielding while emphasizing on the lack of a "complete package" in the same area as far as the current Indian cricket team is concerned.
