Team News

Sydney thrashed Melbourne Renegades by a whopping 145 runs to get a bonus point in the last match.  Josh Philippe smashed a superb 95 and Jordan Silk hit a quickfire 45 at the end. Steve O'Keefe scalped three wickets and Ben Dwarshuis took four wickets. Jason Holder would be available to play.

Adelaide got revenge for their earlier loss against Hobart Hurricanes beating them by five wickets. Peter Siddle led from the front with a five-wicket haul restricting Hobart to a below-par total of 146. Jake Weatherald struck a fine unbeaten 68 and Alex Carey announced his return to the BBL with a calculative knock of 55.

Pitch and Conditions

The side batting first has won three out of five matches played in Hobart this season. Totals at the range of 170-180 would be considered safe if the bowlers get their act together. Anything less than 150 can be easily chased down. There is no chance of rain to disrupt the clash. Dew will prove to be a major factor.

Probable Playing XI

Sydney Sixers (SYS): Josh Phillipe (wk), Jack Edwards, James Vince, Daniel Hughes (c), Jordan Silk, Daniel Christian, Jason Holder/Ben Manenti, Carlos Brathwaite, Ben Dwarshius, Steve O’Keefe, Gurinder Sandhu.

Adelaide Strikers (ADS): Philip Salt, Jake Weatherald, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey (c & wk), Jon Wells, Matthew Short, Ryan Gibson, Rashid Khan, Daniel Worrall, Peter Siddle, Wes Agar

Key Battles

James Vince (SYS) vs Rashid Khan (ADS)

Vince could muster only 17 runs in the last match. He can play delightful shots on both sides of the wicket when he gets going. Playing at the crucial number 3 spot, the right-hander can play a big knock on his day.

Rashid was clinical as he took one wicket and gave away 27 runs in his four-over spell in the previous game. His googly is his main weapon and his quick pace can outfox Vince. Since the bowls from stump to stump, most of the batsmen struggle to pick his clever variations.

Ben Dwarshuis (SYS) vs Alex Carey (ADS)

The skipper struck form in his first match in the BBL with a fine half-century. He is not a trailblazer but relies on deft touches and hitting the ball into the gaps in the field. He mostly bats in the middle overs and he often takes his time before unleashing some big hits.

Dwarshuis was menacing as picked four wickets for just 13 runs in the last game. The skidding left-armer controls the run flow with his clever change of pace. Overall, he is the second highest-ever wicket-taker for Sydney Sixers and is an integral part of the team.

Prediction

It is a straight shootout between Sydney's impressive batting lineup and Adelaide's wicket-taking bowlers. Sydney got 1 week's rest compared to Adelaide who played four days ago. The winner of this match could advance to the second spot in the points table.
