After a year of forced lockdown, Cricket was back in full swing with the Indian Premier League 2020 and from then the motor has been pumping and now we now have yet another thrilling series on the cards as the West indies travel down to Bangladesh to play three ODIs and two tests.
The first ODI between the two nations is set to take place at the Shere Bangala National Stadium, Dhaka this Wednesday.
The series is important for both teams considering the qualification scenario for the ICC World Cup 2023. The top 7 teams along with hosts are set to qualify for the grand tournament along with the two teams from the Qualifiers, making it 10 teams in total.
Bangladesh is currently placed 7th in the ranking and a series win here to get them closer to the Pakistan team. West Indies on the other hand are placed 9th and they are likely to be in an urgency coming into this series.
West Indies come into this series after playing against the Kiwis and England. While the Bangladesh team will be playing competitive cricket after almost a gap of one year. It could be interesting to see how the revamped Windies team takes on the experienced lads of Bangladesh.
Match Toss Time: 13:30 Local (13:00 IST)
Match Start Time: 14:00 Local (13:30 IST)
Match Venue: Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka
The conditions are not quite in favor of cricket as precipitation of 30 percent is forecasted for the day. The rain is expected to cause slight delays to the game but a result looks certain. The temperature is expected to be hovering in the 22-18 degree Celsius and the humidity is anticipated to be on the higher side, 83 percent at the peak.
The last ODI at this venue was played between the very two sides. The pitch is traditionally a batman friendly one and is expected to behave the same way. The toss could play an important role considering the dew factor and the team winning the toss should be looking to chase. Any score in excess of 280 could put the chasing team in a spot of bother.
Bangladesh will be pumped up as they welcome their ace all-rounder and former captain Shakib Al Hasan back to the side. The 33-year old was banned from any form of cricket for a duration of two years after he failed to report approaches and invitations to engage in corrupt conduct. He made his return in the recently concluded Bangabandhu T20 cup and did manage to live upto his reputation.
Bangladesh have also included three uncapped players in their squad-Mahedi Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, and Shoriful Islam. It looks likely for Shoriful Islam to make his ODI debut in this encounter.
West Indies on the other side will feature a revamped team as the senior players decided to back of the series. The inexperienced team is set to be captained by Jason Mohammed. Given that there are a number of uncapped players in the squad, it would be interesting how the skipper and management go about picking the playing Xl for this encounter.
