The stage is all set for the much-awaited heavyweight clash between Team Australia and India. The first ODI is set to take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground and the series will be decided over three matches. This is the first time Team India will be playing an International series post the forced break due to lockdown. The Australians played the English team in the months of August and September, which the Aussies won the series 2-1.
The two look very tough to separate, as both the teams have a very good line-up and are well balanced too. Though the conditions could be in the favor of the Aussies, the Indian team in recent times have shown the foreign conditions do not affect them much. The last time Men in Blue toured Australia, the ODI series was won by India 2-1.
It is to be noted that in the last bilateral series the two teams played, the Baggy greens made an incredible comeback from trailing 2-0 to winning the series 3-2. For that reason, the series already promises to be a thrilling one, and could take a lot to separate the two of them.
Can the spirited Team India start their campaign with a win? Or will it be the Australians who dominate the proceedings in their backyard?
Match Toss Time: 14:10 Local (08:40 IST)
Match Start Time: 14:40 Local (09:10 IST)
Match Venue: Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney
The conditions are expected to be in favor of cricket as clear skies are expected throughout the afternoon and are expected to be overcast around the end of the first innings, nothing that can interrupt the play though. The temperatures are expected to be hovering around the 24-10 degree range. The humidity at the peak is likely to touch the 69% percent mark.
The pitch in Sydney is ideal for the batsmen and the batsmen could have a wonderful time with the ball coming on well onto the bat. Said that the pitch is also known for assisting the fast bowlers early in the innings and that could put the openers in some sort of trouble. The team winning the toss should look to put a score on the board. Anything above the 265 mark is likely to put the team chasing team in a spot of bother.
The Indian team has not reported any injuries. Though the absence of their key opener Rohit Sharma might hurt the balance of the team, as Rohit has been one of the best batsmen for Team India over the years. The 33- year old is recovering from a hamstring injury and looks unlikely he will be able to make it for the Test match series. Said that the Men in Blue do look well in shape otherwise, and once again their skipper Virat Kohli and spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will play a crucial role in the proceedings.
The Baggy greens have not reported any injuries and the squad well in shape to begin the encounter. The team will have some concerns with the form of few players like their skipper Aaron Finch, who was seen to be struggling in the recently concluded Indian Premier League, and Pat Cummins- who was rather ineffective in the same league. But, the conditions are different now and they will be playing in their backyard. Can that turn the tables in their favor?
