After Suresh Raina, veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has also opted out of the Indian Premier League 2020 edition due to personal reasons. The 40-year-old was about to play his third season as a Chennai Super Kings player but as things stand, he will not be a part of the team playing the tournament in UAE.

The IPL 2020 edition is just a couple weeks away from commencing and two senior players from the CSK camp have decided not to be a part of the competition. Harbhajan had already missed out on the six-day camp in Chennai last month and did not travel with the squad to the UAE on August 21. However, the franchise was informed that he would join later.

Harbhajan has played 24 games for CSK and has picked up 23 wickets, winning the title in his first CSK season and losing the final against his former team in his second stint with CSK. The news broke out after Harbhajan himself tweeted about it. His tweet read, “Dear Friends, I will not be playing IPL this year due to personal reasons. These are difficult times and I would expect some privacy as I spend time with my family. CSK management has been extremely supportive and I wish them a great IPL. Stay safe and Jai Hind.”

Soon after his tweet, CSK also posted a tweet revealing his decision and showing support publicly. Last week, Suresh Raina also pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons and returned to India even though the player has hinted that he may return at a later stage.

As for CSK, 13 people including two players had tested positive for COVID-19. The squad are finally ready and have been given the green signal to start training from Friday after testing negative in the later results.

The two players though will be tested again after their 14-day isolation period is complete.
