Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Kings XI Punjab at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium on Monday night. It will be a battle of two Australian skippers as David Warner takes on his fellow team mate Glenn Maxwell. Both teams have won their first two games of the season and lost the next two. That makes this battle an interesting one.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Strengths
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan among the wickets! Bhuvi was SRH’s leading wicket taker in IPL 2016 and he has been amongst wickets once again. In the first four matches of this season, Bhuvi has proven his class and displayed his skills. The pacer has taken crucial wickets for Sunrisers and has been economical at the same time.
Afghan leggie Rashid Khan on the other hand has taken a wicket in his first over in all four matches and that too wickets of quality top order batsmen. The leg spinner has become a pivotal member of that bowling unit very early in the season. SRH had to choose between Mustafizur and Rashid in the previous game and the team management went with Rashid Khan. Shows how highly Rashid’s ranked by his skipper!
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Weakness
Missing a quality all-rounder! SRH have two Australian all-rounders in the team – Moises Henriques and Ben Cutting but their economy rate has been on the higher side. They’re leaking runs and that’s the reason why Sunrisers have failed to choke their oppositions off late. SRH started off the campaign nicely but the defeats in their previous two matches is a sign that they need to make a few changes.
With Mohammad Nabi and Chris Jordan in their squad, Sunrisers need to give them these two players opportunities to feature in the upcoming matches.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (Probable XI) – David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, Moises Henriques, Yuvraj Singh, Deepak Hooda, Naman Ojha, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Mohammad Siraj.
Kings XI Punjab: Strengths
Axar Patel’s crucial all-round contributions! The all-rounder has contributed heavily for Kings XI Punjab in most of the games till now with the bat and the ball. He has been impressive without a doubt, but Kings XI Punjab need to use him more wisely for the remaining matches of the season. He was at his explosive best against Delhi Daredevils at Feroz Shah Kotla but came out to bat pretty late in the innings.
Maxwell needs to ensure that Axar is promoted up that batting order for the maximum results. With his bowling, Axar has been wily and Maxwell highlighted about his contribution in the post match presentation too.
Kings XI Punjab: Weakness
Poor bowling! Kings XI Punjab have opted for all overseas batsmen at the start of the tournament and are missing the services of an experienced T20 specialist bowler in their attack. They have good local talent but those bowlers haven’t been consistent enough. Instead of one batsman, they should experiment with an overseas bowler against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. They need to strengthen their bowling unit, before it gets too late.
Kings XI Punjab (Probable XI) – Hashim Amla, Manan Vohra, Glenn Maxwell, David Miller, Eoin Morgan, Axar Patel, Wriddhiman Saha, Varun Aaron, Sandeep Sharma, Mohit Sharma, KC Cariappa.
Pitch – The pitch at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium has proved to be a good batting surface. This being a night game, the dew factor might make it easier for the chasing team. The season opener at this venue was a high scoring contest, and this one promises to be another such high scoring contest.
Prediction – Both teams seem to have lost the plot after the type of start they got in IPL 2017. Since, Sunrisers Hyderabad have a good record at home and looking at Warner’s form, the home team has the upper hand against Kings XI Punjab in this contest.
Possible winner – Sunrisers Hyderabad
Overseas players to pick in fantasy team:
- David Warner
- Rashid Khan
- Glenn Maxwell
- David Miller
